Shirley Ann Johnson
Shirley passed away on the morning of 4th of July surrounded by those she loved.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness as she is survived by her devoted son Paul; cherished grandchildren Samantha (Richie), Chris (Nicole), Sarah, Faith, and Dylan; and beloved great-grandchildren Juliette, Hazel, and Aiden. She is also deeply missed by her loving mother Joyce; her sister Sharon (Jack); and her brother Steven (Dena). In addition, Shirley was a second mom to—David (Dawn), Jennifer (Dustin), and James—and she loved her bonus grandchildren Mikayla, McKenzie, Emma, Johnny, Mia, and Luca, all of whom she loved as her own. As well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Shirley now reunites in eternal peace with her beloved husband of 50 years, John, and her dear son Johnny. She is also preceded in death by her father Calvin, brothers Harold and Bill, sister Carolin, and niece Alexis. All of their memories remain forever etched in our hearts.
Shirley was the embodiment of warmth and generosity—always just a phone call away, opening her heart and home to anyone in need. She will be fondly remembered for her immense, caring heart and her unwavering support for loved ones and friends alike. Shirley’s kindness knew no bounds, reaching far and wide. Whether serving as a dedicated lunch mom at Harnew and Simmons for her boys, working many years at Sears in the Chicago Ridge Mall, or working at the Animal Welfare League, she touched countless lives. Shirley treasured the lifelong connections she made, especially the enduring bonds she maintained with her high school friends, a testament to her loyalty and radiant spirit.
Shirley’s life was enriched by her passions—music and dancing filled her days with joy, while her love for cooking and baking, especially soups, which brought comfort to many. She adored her fur babies, who were always close to her heart, and she will be remembered for the warmth and happiness she spread wherever she went.
Though Shirley may no longer walk beside us, her spirit continues to inspire and guide those whose lives she touched. We are eternally grateful for the love, laughter, and wisdom she shared so freely. As we say goodbye, we hold tight to our cherished memories, honoring her legacy by embracing others with the same kindness and joy she so effortlessly gave.
Resting at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn where Services will take place Tuesday, July 14th at 10:30 am.
Interment Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery.
Visitation Monday, July 13th from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
