John P. Mahoney

John “Jack” P. Mahoney, longtime resident of Oak Lawn, IL, passed away peacefully at age 92 on May 22, 2026.

Born and raised in Chicago, Jack was the oldest of seven children and learned responsibility early in life at age 13 after the loss of his father. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1951 and went on to enjoy a successful 53 year career with Marquette Bank where he was known for his dedication, professionalism, honesty and steady presence.

Jack was the beloved husband of the late June Olson Mahoney for 58 years, and devoted father to Pam (Ken) Latka, Patrice Mahoney, Jim “Stump” (Wes Walker) Mahoney and Karen (Tom) Zobak. Spending time with his seven grandchildren, Michael (Kirsten) Latka; Michelle (Tyler) Charles; Tyler, Jason and Nicole Bath; Zach and Max Zobak and four great-grandchildren, Jack and Kelsey Latka; Avery and Liv Charles, always brought out his playful and silly self. Jack was the dear brother of the late Neal Mahoney, the late Danny Mahoney, Mary Therese (late Dick) Wasser, Eileen (late Tom Voutes) Mahoney, the late Jean (late Bob) Schifferl and Joan (Terry) McHenry; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law and friend to many.

For many years, he found purpose volunteering in various capacities at St. Linus Parish, lending his skills and ideas. After retiring in 2000, Jack and June made their second home in Oro Valley, AZ where he continued his volunteering with their homeowners’ association and local thrift shop.

He will be remembered for his devotion to family, friends and work, his witty sense of humor that made so many laugh and his revered Irish heritage.
