Dolores Cotter

Dolores Ann Cotter, “Chick”, age 81, died peacefully on Sunday, December 30, in Scottsdale, AZ from complications of congestive heart failure. She is survived by her loving husband John “Jack” Cotter (retired Captain, Chicago Police Department), children Susan A. Cotter (Lou Lipschultz), Joseph C. Cotter (Belinda), and Jeanne M. Cotter (Jim Sencion), granddaughter’s Olivia and Isabelle Sencion, many Cotter family nieces and nephews, and Toots (her feline companion). Chick grew up in Chicago, IL and attended Harper High School, where she was an active member of the band. After high school, she completed a radiographic (X-ray) program at South Chicago Hospital and then joined Commonwealth Edison as an X-ray technician. In 1954, she married Jack Cotter and moved to the Clearing neighborhood of Chicago, where she and Jack raised their 3 children. Chick was an active member of the Clearing Methodist Church in Chicago (and later Bethany Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, AZ), several book clubs, TOPS, and her Bible Study Group. Chick loved to travel and was an avid reader who enjoyed sharing her favorite reads with her family and friends. She was a very happy and devoted Nana to her granddaughter’s Liv and Cheddar. Chick will be remembered for her generous spirit, love of entertaining, and ability to throw together a meal or party at the drop of a hat. Visitation is Friday, January 4th from 3 pm to 9pm at the Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home at 5570 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn, IL. (708) 425-0500. A chapel service will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 10 am at the funeral home followed by internment at Mount Vernon Memorial Estates in Lemont, IL. The service will be webcast and available as an archive at MemorialWebcasts.com. A memorial service will be held in Scottsdale at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Chick asked that donations be made to Misericordia, an organization that offers a community of care to maximize potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities 6300 North Ridge Chicago, IL 60660; https://www.misericordia.com/donations/donate_online.aspx .
